NSW: Sydney greets the New Year in spectacular style

Australia has greeted 2000 in spectacular style with nearly a million people cramming
Sydney's harbourside for the biggest New Year's bash in the nation's history.

Elsewhere celebrations were not as exuberant; in Melbourne an estimated 350,000 gathered
along the Yarra, while in Brisbane, where the new year starts in 15 minutes, police were
surprised to report a normal Friday night.
