If you appreciate a little accounting humour, Atlanta is the place to be later this month. Would-be stand-up comedians (who also happen to be Atlanta-area accountants or financial professionals) will be competing Oct. 25, 2007 for the title of the South's Funniest Accountant in an annual contest put on by recruiting firm Accountants One.
Ten finalists, who were chosen after auditioning live or by tape, won a stint in "comedy boot camp" where they honed their routines with an improv coach. Each contestant will perform three to five minutes of original stand-up material in front of a theatre audience and a panel of judges, who will assess the creativity, uniqueness and delivery of each routine, as well as the audience's reaction. Aside from bragging rights, the winner will receive a trip for two to Las Vegas to see two comedy shows.
